Guidelines for Group Mat Classes
- All group classes require a Mat and we recommend you bring a water bottle
- We do have mats for client use, if you borrow a mat please clean it before putting it away, many Thanks!
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing without zippers, buttons or belts to avoid discomfort, all classes are done in bare feet (some exceptions for bare feet include socks or shoes if there are foot concerns), avoid excessive jewelry especially when using equipment
- Please be on time for class, this means arriving up to 15 minutes early for class, no more than (the classes are staggered by 15 min to allow for coming and going
- Consult your doctor if in doubt about whether or not you should be doing the chosen group class, ask your instructor if you have any doubts and they may refer you to your doctor or other health practitioner
- No food in the studio please, drinks with caps or covers are allowed
Guidelines for Yoga Classes
- Bring your Mat and water bottle, we recommend you bring your own thick heavy blanket for a pillow, support, or as an actual blanket in cooler climates for Savasana, 2 blocks and/or belt, we do have one’s for borrowing as well
- Wear comfortable clothes, layers are the best, No zippers, belts, buckles or jeans
- Please be on time (up to 15 minutes before class, no earlier please) so as not to disrupt the start of class, we often start with a theme, you may miss this important focus of the practice if you are late, it is also a sign of respect to the class and the teacher to be on time
- When entering the class room please be considerate of others need for space and quiet, often before a yoga practice we may rest or breathe deeply to release the activity of the day to be able to start practice with a clearer head
- Go at your own pace, we all have different breath patterns and physical abilities, bringing self awareness to the practice you will find that your breath and body are the best guides for self exploration, avoid pushing or pulling into positions your body may not be ready for, or comparing yourself to others, everyday is different, we all have different strengths and weaknesses on any given day, be kind to yourself in thought and form (Ahimsa)
- Think positively, some days we may be feeling stressed or anxious, try to put these thoughts aside and think of something positive to focus on during your practice, the body responds well when we have an open and positive disposition. Even if you do start the practice with some residual feelings from your day, you may find that they dissipate as you practice and that you leave feeling better than when you came, enjoy the journey not just the destination!
- Try to avoid eating up to 2 hrs before your yoga practice, yoga is done best on an empty stomach as food can get in the way of many twists and bends, if you have a small meal wait for up to 2 hrs before beginning practice
- Practice at home, the most benefit from yoga comes with continuity, if you are not sure what to do at home you may consider booking a private one-on-one session with Alaria to have a practice designed specifically for you
